Message from Executive Director

Since three decades ago Tara Gaon Development Board (TGDB) being one of the autonomous bodies of the Nepal government has been working to develop and promote tourism. TGDB has been established in 2034 B.S. under the Development Board Act 2013. In early days, TGDB has involved to construct and run the hotels and restaurants for welcoming the tourists. TGDB has tried to explore the typical Nepali culture & life style and natural beauty & virginity of many destinations in Nepal. TGDB also tried to establish peace and friendship in international arena via Nepalese peoples' hospitality.

TGDB has been conducting many tourism related activities such as conduct researches- feasibility study for tourism destination development in four development regions of the country, Tourism Model Village development study, feasibility study for the development of Tourism Hub, researches to develop Tourism Development Mater Plan and awareness programme among concern stakeholders to conserve the natural resources and the typical art and culture, provide tourism services-accommodation facilities running hotels  and other related activities to develop and promote tourism with focus on rural tourism.

Although TGDB has completed long way it has no clear plans and programmes. Like other Development Boards TGDB has no monetary support from government. That's why it has had to bear all financial responsibility to run the organization since its establishment. Therefore TGDB has had to spend its crucial time for conduction of non relevant activities.

Nepal has immense potentialities of tourism especially nature based tourism i.e. rural/village tourism. Today poverty reduction via tourism is a major concern because tourism activities play key role for income generation in remote rural areas. The country has already changed into a federal republican Nepal and also it is going to be reformed in each and every aspect. In this circumference, we need to reform TGDB in policy, plans & programmes, institutional setup, financial arrangements and administrative & human resource management changing it to a National Rural Tourism Development Authority.
