District and Tara Gaon Resort Hotels Private
Limited were the two premier organizations for the formation
of Tara Gaon Development Board. The former institution
was involved in providing services to the vulnerable,
disadvantaged and deprived groups of people, especially
children and women while the later was engaged in the
operation of resort hotels in Kathmandu. The Women's
Organisation was also actively involved in dealing commodity
business. As a result, it earned good income, which
was enough for paying the compensation (Muabja) for
347 Ropanis of land acquired by the Government of Nepal
for a long-term multi-purpose project and, also for
self-reliance. Ramagriha building located at New Road
- the heart of Kathmandu city was donated by Mrs. Rama
Rajya Laxmi Devi and late Singha Sum JBR on 2021-1-4 to Nepal Women's Organization Kathmandu
District for its excellent performance. When a new Class Organisation Act was promulgated the Nepal’s Women’s Organisation Kathmandu District Committee did not remain an autonomous body. Consequently, the liabilities and assets of both the organizations were transferred to then the Government of Nepal by Law and the government transferred these assets and liabilities to Tara Gaon Development Board along with the process of its establishment.
Tara Gaon Development Board (TGDB) is an elderly government
establishment under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism
and Civil Aviation involved in tourism planning and
resort hotel operation. The organization was established
in accordance with Tara Gaon Development Board Formation
Order, 1977 under Development Board ACT 1956 (2013).
The main objectives of Tara Gaon Development are to
promote Nepalese arts and culture, and the Nepalese
way of life for the sustained development of tourism
in the country with focus, currently on rural, cultural
and pilgrimage tourism. The objective also includes
promoting international peace, friendship and understanding
in its most humble way. The first amendment made in
Tara Gaon Formation Order has specially focused on rural
tourism.
The Board of Directors consisting of seven members
(3 appointed by the government, 4 high level government
officials representing different ministries and chief
executive officer of Nepal tourism Board) has been managing
the organization. Tara Gaon Development Board has 51
staff members as its organizational supporting strength.
Started with small purs of rupees 68.50 in the begining Tara Gaon Development Board now owns assets worth about two billion rupees.
